Restoring Community Spirit Through Purpose-Driven Partnership

When is a dog park opening more than a dog park opening? When it signifies the enduring strength, care and resilience of a community determined to recover after a devastating natural disaster. In the wake of Hurricane Helene, the Asheville community came together to respond, to rebuild, and eventually to rejoice in the return of moments of normalcy.

In that spirit, HCA Healthcare’s Mission Health and Asheville Parks &Recreation joined forces to fulfill their shared commitment of showing up for the community. Riverbend Dog Park was created to offer a safe, temporary space for residents and beloved pets to gather as rebuilding efforts continued across the region. 

The Grand Opening on July 15, 2025, celebrated local businesses, community spirit, and city leadership, while also highlighting The Show Love Project, an ongoing effort that honors healthcare workers. But the celebration wasn’t just about the day itself—it reflected the deeper impact of community collaboration and Mission Health’s ongoing commitment to Asheville.
